Buzzing Calls in SIMHE-UniPID

July 26, 2016

A lot is going on in the SIMHE-UniPID project, including two ongoing calls. There is funding available for new SIMHE-UniPID Virtual Studies Proposals and room for best practice or research posters in a national seminar in December.

There is quite a bit going on in UniPID´s Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education in Finland (SIMHE) project.

The guidance and counselling sessions have been running all summer, and there are two ongoing calls, too.

1) Remember the 2016 Call for SIMHE-UniPID Virtual Studies Proposals?

It is still open until August 25th. In short, there is funding available for the UniPID member universities in order to provide 1-5 ECT courses especially for recently arrived migrants, such as asylum seekers. For more details, please check here

2) A new Call for Posters

SIMHE-UniPID is preparing a national seminar with the theme "Migrants in Higher Education: Fostering Cooperation at Universities" for 13.-14. December 2016. The event will take place in Jyväskylä, and an important part of it is mutually sharing what we already have.

For this we open a call for poster-proposals regarding

a) existing best practices and

b) currently ongoing or planned research related to Migrants in Higher Education.

The field of the best practice is not limited, so the practice presented can come from student or international services, showcase a way of realizing a particular course or programme, represent an operational policy etc. Research projects focusing on intercultural Higher Education are especially welcome, but also other related research will be considered. This call is open for all universities, regardless their affiliation with UniPID.

Please send an abstract-proposal of max. 1000 words in English describing the best practice or research project you and/or your institution/department/unit would like to make known in the seminar. Send your proposal through this link before October 21st 2016. The selection of posters will be realized before October 31st.

All selected posters will have a stand for the actual poster / physical material display at the event´s "Poster Park”. The language of the material can be either Finnish or English. In case of using Finnish material, a summary in English should be provided.

At least one person should present the poster on Tuesday 13th December from 13.45-14.30, and preferably be available for answering related questions during the event. In case including digital material to the presentation, please bring your own device.
