Responsible and fair global academic partnerships
UniPID Webinar 2021: How to foster responsible and fair global academic partnerships: concepts, good practices, and tools for building collaboration
Global academic collaborations are expected to be based on equal, reciprocal, and responsible partnerships. However, despite good intentions, North-South collaboration discourses and practices still often turn out to be fairly Eurocentric, failing to adequately reflect the aims for equality and reciprocity. This failure is related to issues such as how we understand and consider the complex global and local contexts and power relations in academic collaborations, how we engage our partners, and how we talk about and with our partners in the Global South.
The UniPID Webinar 2021 aims to provide participants with a framework for understanding what building more equitable global partnerships can look like in an academic context, as well as practical tools for undertaking this within their own partnerships to create more responsible and sustainable academic collaboration.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Samia Chasi (International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA); University of Free State). After the keynote there will be a panel discussion on the practices that support fair, responsible, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial academic partnerships, moderated by Eva Kagiri Kalanzi.
The panel discussion is followed by invited comments: Senior Science Adviser Mikko Ylikangas from the Academy of Finland, and Counsellor of education Maija Airas from the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) will provide a reflection and elaborate on the discussion, and to contextualize the panel discussion within current debates in Finnish higher education and science policy.
Dr Samia Chasi is a practitioner, scholar and facilitator in higher education internationalisation. She is currently the manager of the Strategic Initiatives, Partnership Development and Research at the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) and a Research Fellow at the University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa.
