University intern, Autumn 2024. (Deadline: 2 September 2024)

UniPID is currently seeking an intern to assist -primarily but not only- with planning of the Development Days 2025 Conference (DevDays2025), which is organized by the Finnish Society for Development Research (FSDR) in collaboration with UniPID and other stakeholders. The Development Days is Finland’s largest annual international conference dedicated to development research, practice, and activism. The conference will feature a broad spectrum of topics through working groups and panel discussions.

The responsibilities will include the following:

  • Event Organization: Assisting with the planning and organization of DevDays2025, managing conference registration, drafting the conference program, aiding with travel arrangements, assisting in budget-related matters, and providing other technical support.
  • Communication: Designing a communication strategy and actions for DevDays2025, updating the webpage, handling email communications, among others.
  • Head of Conference Secretariat: Responsible for heading the conference secretariat, including forming and leading a team of conference volunteers.

Qualifications

The intern is expected to be proactive and able to work independently. To manage the work effectively, the intern should possess excellent organizational and teamwork skills, a sense of service, and strong communication and cooperation skills. An interest in higher education, development research, and multi-stakeholder engagement is a bonus. The ability to communicate orally and in writing in English is a requirement.

Position Details

The intern’s position will be in the Coordination Unit of UniPID in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki. The internship is a part-time position and will take place from 15 October 2024 to 14 March 2025.

The intern is required to have a university internship subsidy. The intern’s salary will be €700 per month for a part-time (50%) position.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you are enrolled in a Finnish university and qualify for an internship subsidy from your university. Accordingly, students at the University of Helsinki are not eligible to apply for an internship subsidy for an internship position at the same university. Work Arrangement

The work can also be organized remotely, although certain activities will require in-person attendance in Helsinki. Further details and practicalities will be negotiated and agreed upon together. The intern will receive supervision from both UniPID and FSDR.
