The Unit for Development Policy in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has commissioned two ICT- and development-related research projects in 2011–2012. Pro-poor social and economic opportunities in the

African ICT innovation ecosystem. Perspectives and case study of Iringa, Tanzania, carried out by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, explores the opportunities of "mobile revolution” in Africa and develops forward-looking practices focusing on rural and urban poverty in developing countries. An analysis of the drivers for emerging sectoral innovation systems in developing economies: cases Tanzania and Vietnam, by Ramboll Management Consulting, examines the key drivers for the development of innovation systems at sectoral level in the developing economies. The studies give policy recommendations for the Ministry and for other policy-makers and NGOs.
