SIMHE-UniPID Virtual Studies

Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education in Finland (SIMHE) - UniPID Virtual Studies supports immigrants in Finland to attain university credits, in order to integrate into the Finnish higher education system.

There are three 5 ECTS, free of charge, SIMHE-UniPID Virtual Studies courses offered by UniPID member universities for recently arrived migrants, refugees and asylum seekers living in Finland.

The courses funded by the former SIMHE-UniPID Project (coordinated at UniPID 03/2016-02/2017) are:

Technologies for learning: mobile and social technologies integration in pursuit of quality learning Organiser: Tampere University

Gender & sexuality: New identities in Nordic landscapes Organiser: University of Helsinki, Svenska Social och Kommunal Högskolan

Introduction to Research Methods Organiser: University of Helsinki

The aim of the courses is to contribute to and diversify the spectrum of academic courses available for migrants and their integration into the Finnish Higher Education. The courses offered have been evaluated on the basis of their relevancy for people with a migratory background. Individual guidance and user-support for using digital learning platforms have been offered for the students of the courses. Each SIMHE-UniPID Virtual Study course must be transferable to a Degree program at least in the offering university.

All courses have been organized one to two times since 2017. Until the end of 2020, courses will be run again so that each course will be offered and implemented three times.
